The ECDL programme defines the skills and competencies necessary to use a computer and common computer applications. Candidates take tests in the modules, which are most relevant to their educational and professional requirements, thereby creating their ECDL Profile. Currently, there are 21 ECDL modules from which is 12 available in Slovakia. There are also 3 introduction programs called eCitizen.

The range of knowledge and skills that are taught in a module (the specific thematic area of digital skills) and verifies during the examination in a module is listed in syllabus. The syllabus is software and hardware independent.
The exam consists exclusively of practical questions and tasks and is available in the Slovak language. Tests from M2, M3, M4, M5, M6, M7, M12 modules can also be performed in English
